The MMED PCH is a postgraduate programme for those doctors who wish to become paediatricians. It provides the postgraduate student with sufficient knowledge and skills to become a specialist paediatrician. The product of the programme is competent to deliver high quality clinical paediatric services, provide strong leadership in child health programs; contribute to the teaching of staff at all levels, to advocate for children’s welfare and rights and be a role model to junior staff. MMED PCH programme is a 4-year programme. Years one and two of the MMED in paediatrics and child health programme comprise of teaching in biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, pharmacology and embryology as it applies to the care of neonates and children and two years of clinical attachments as a registrar in the department. In years three and four, the trainees undergo training in general and subspecialty paediatrics. Fifteen (15) months of these are attachments which are undertaken in either Durban (RN Mandela Medical School, University of KwaZulu Natal) or Cape Town (Red Cross Children’s Memorial Hospital, University of Cape Town), or any other suitable institution in South Africa where there is already a collaboration.

Fees for the Programme
Successful applicants will be required to pay the Malawi Kwacha equivalent of USD3,300 for Malawian nationals and USD6,000 for SADC students payable in two instalments. International students from countries outside the SADC region will pay USD8,000 . Half of the fees must be paid during registration at the beginning of the first semester.
