This is a four-year full-time competency-based study programme delivered through direct contact for both theory and clinical practice. Mentorship during clinical attachment provided by midwifery educators, preceptors and mentors helps the learners to acquire clinical competencies in the management of pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, labour, puerperium, and neonatal period. The program focuses on learner’s development of essential competencies for maternal, and neonatal health care and service including lifesaving skills. On successful completion of the programme, the learner will obtain the status of a “midwife” on registration with the appropriate registering body. In this programme, the learner will first be introduced to basic nursing sciences relevant to midwifery practice. The second part of the programme will focus on maternal and newborn care.
