The four-year MMed in Clinical Microbiology program aims to generate the critical mass of Clinical Microbiologists who will be equipped with knowledge, skills and expertise required to provide specialist opinion in their clinical discipline and have developed the appropriate managerial skills to lead a laboratory, if required. They will also be expected to be at the forefront in tackling and managing public health crises such as local and global outbreaks in collaboration with other professionals. The program will also equip the graduates with self-directed research skills that will enable them to conduct research in the field of Clinical Microbiology, thereby creating a critical mass of specialists who will become leaders and researchers in Malawi and abroad. The programme aims to generate a critical mass of Clinical Microbiologists that will be at the forefront of the fight against antimicrobial resistance using the one health approach. This in collaboration with specialists in different clinical disciplines and also other health cadres. This will be in line with the National agenda to reduce the burden of antimicrobial resistance. The Master in Clinical Microbiology program will enrol MBBS holders or equivalent and take them through a 4-year Microbiology laboratory and Microbiology clinical liaison training. Students are required to complete the defined course, and pass all defined Assessment modalities which include; continuous assessment, MMed Part 1 and Part 2 examinations and complete a research dissertation.

Fees for the Programme

Successful applicants will be required to pay the Malawi Kwacha equivalent of USD3,300 for Malawian nationals and USD6,000 for SADC students payable in two instalments. International students from countries outside the SADC region will pay USD8,000 . Half of the fees must be paid during registration at the beginning of the first semester.
